KTM RC 390 Detailed Review with Price 2022
Before starting the review I have to say that the 2022 KTM RC 390 is looking more attractive and sportier than before. the company has changed the design completely & this 2022 model gets new design elements from front to rear and top to bottom.Read More
Besides this, the company said that this new RC 390 is much more aerodynamic than before & will help the rider to achieve top speed faster. before writing this review I have written the study of the new TVS Apache RR310 review & it was damn stylish and looked more significant than the RC 390.
But I was wrong this KTM 390 gets everything to impress the rider and is much more comfortable to use in the city like our TVS Apache RR 310. & one by one I will explain everything about this bike and what changes the company has done in it.
First, let’s start with the front fairing which is completely new and the windscreen is now taller than before that helping the rider to completely tuck in while riding on the race track & unique thing about this bike is from fairing is completely transparent.
New LED Lights
Speaking about Lights, the older dual projector LED setup is replaced by the new KTM Duke 390-inspired lights as a result they look completely different.
Besides this, LED turn indicators also moved from the side view mirrors to the front fairing & as well as DRLS.
Some people may not like the front design of the front fairing as I didn’t impressed with the design when I saw this bike the first time.
New Fuel Tank Design
Another major major change that KTM has done is to install a new steel fuel tank that is now bigger than the previous RC 390 9.5 L FT.
This time company has redesigned the fuel tank which is larger than before and carries 13.7 liters inspired by the KTM moto3 race bike.
Besides this previous bike have a fuel tank hidden inside the fuel tank cowl this new model’s fuel tank is exposed.
New Alloy wheel design
The company has re-designed and engineered a new alloy wheel that is lighter about 3.4 kg as a result of better acceleration & handling.
In addition, the front wheel is 1.7 kg & rear wheel is 1.7 kg lighter than before, so the combined weight reduction is 3.4kg.
And all-new bionic wheel design features fewer spokes and open hubs which not only improve the handling.
But importantly saves massive rotating unsprung mass which means quicker turns-in on the track & durability on the streets.
Re-Designed Steel Trellis Frame
Forth change that company has made is to modify the older trellis frame & the rear subframe is now bolted to the front frame.
Besides this, Chromoly steel is used to build the frame as a result this frame is now 4 kg lighter than the previous one.
Whereas the company said that stiffness is not always better for handling so this new frame is slightly flexible.
It works like when a rider maneuvering a corner suspension is already working harder this type of flexibility act as suspension itself.
As a result, the rider can hold the line during cornering which helps to take faster lap time.
Rider & Pillion New Seats
The older model RC 390 didn’t comfortable and nor looks good besides this most buyer remains uncomfortable during the ride.
But this time by introducing a new seat company made this bike more rider friendly & as well as pillion friendly.
During designing the new seat engineers kept only three things in mind first design second comfort & third riding dynamics.
New Clip-on handlebars
This new handlebar has 10mm of height adjustment to suit the rider’s needs whether he wants to ride in the city or on the race track.
Finally, we have a much-improved bike & all the body panels are new including the side fairing is now more aerodynamic.
As you can see in the images these new side fairings not only look better than before but also deflect hot air away from the rider.
Let me share one thing about my experience with you when I was writing a blog about Apache RR 310 I was thinking that it looks good than other bikes out there.
But as I started to see this bike in front of me after analyzing the new RC 390 I came up with a conclusion.
This new KTM is equally capable and sportier than Ninja 300, 400 & Apache RR 310.
How RC 390 engine, brakes & suspension perform?
Engine Specs
Before start saying anything about the engine of the new RC 390 that the aggressive throttle response is gone up you don’t feel that kind of throttle response in the BS6 model.Read More
And the engine delivers power more precise and linear manner which means that someone riding this bike for the first time can easily handle it.
But many riders still like the aggressive throttle response of the previous bike.
So powering this bike is a 373.27 cc single-cylinder, water-cooled DOHC 4-valve single-cylinder engine that develops 43.5PS of power & 37NM of torque.
Besides this, a 6-speed gearbox is coupled with this engine to deliver power to the rear wheels and a Bi-directional quick shifter & slipper clutch also come with this.
This engine comes with a water cooling system with new improved airflow technology that features a curved radiator with two fans that helps the engine to maintain optimum temperature.
The next change the company has done is in the air box which is now 40 percent larger than before, as a result, the KTM RC 390 now produces 1 nm more torque & slick throttle response.
And Ride-by-wire technology is the same as before & engineers said that they have fine-tuned the injection system & sensor for better response.
The last improvement is done by the KTM by installing a new exhaust derived from the MOTO GP RC16 bike that not only looks good but sounds better as well & is made up of stainless steel & muffler.
I like this design of the exhaust & I was not a fan of the design of the older exhaust & Lastly, I want to say the bike is still more enjoyable & manageable than before.
New WP Apex front/rear suspension
The suspension system of the 2022 RC 390 is changed but the suspension system with getting in this bike is different from the international model as you can see in the images.
Up front, you get 43mm WP APEX open cartridge USD forks with 30 clicks of compression & rebound damping adjustment but in India, you don’t get adjustable suspension & KTM said we have already fine-tuned the suspension according to India.
And at the rear, you will get WP Apex monoshocker with 10-step adjustability but again we don’t get any adjustment in India spec 390 KTM.
The suspension really performs well over the broken roads and well on the track, we found during its test.
New Lightweight discs brakes
Just like other parts disc design is also new and now the disc is larger than before & directly bolted to the wheel without and disc carrier.
The company said that we have saved 800 grams of weight from the front disc & 160 gm from the rear disc. A total of 960g of weight was saved from the braking system.
Up front, this bike has a 320 mm Disc with a Radially mounted calliper & at the rear 230 mm Disc with a Floating calliper.
Brakes deliver good feedback to the rider and offer great brake bite which is necessary for this kind of bike.
KTM RC 390 Colors 2022
We all know that orange means KTM just like green is the primary color of Kawasaki. So KTM is not changing its orange color it’s only changing the graphics.
This time two new colors are added the KTM KTM Factory racing blue & KTM electronic orange. both colors are awesome as you can see in the images.
And there is another color that is inspired by the MotoGP bikes.
KTM RC 390 Mileage
Well, talking about the mileage is not make any sense because you will not buy this for the mileage you will buy it for its high performance.
I will disclose the exact mileage figure of this bike & this is a mileage test that is done by the rider on the highway after the first service. This bike delivered 28.2 kmpl.
Whereas second time the bike is ridden in the city of hilly areas it delivered 24 km/l & during the test, the bike was above 70 kmph.

Besides this, I will share with you what GPS is showing the top speed & what the speedometer is showing.
171 kmph max speed is recorded by the GPS and 174 km/h is recorded by the speedometer & speed can vary according to the riding condition.
Although I have seen some top speed tests of other countries where this bike is hitting up to 180 km/h top speed.

What’s new in the Ktm RC 200 2023?
As we know that Ktm has updated its old RC models and the design is entirely new. and the above paragraph, we have mentioned all the changes done by the company in detail. so all these upgrades are the same in the 2023 RC 200 models. Read More
In this paragraph, I will only mention the features you will get in the Ktm RC 200 other than the RC 390.
DESIGN
So the design of the Ktm RC 200 is exactly the same. I mean you will get the same aerodynamic bodywork as e have got in the mighty RC 390. Headlights, Tailights and Indicators are equipped with LED.
The size of the fuel tank 13.7 litres is the same on the other hand wheels, Suspensions, brakes and seats are exactly the same. but which is not the same as the colour scheme you will get two new colours with the Ktm RC 200 which are DARK GALVANO & METALLIC SILVER.
LCD DASH DISPLAY
The first change you will notice here that your Ktm RC 200 is comes equipped with an LCD display not with a Color TFT Display just like in the RC 390. LCD display looks like the TFT display and it’s a much better unit than we used to get with the Ktm RC 200 2020.
It shows some useful information like Speed, RPM, Gear position, Distance to Empty, Average fuel economy and fuel consumption etc.
NON ADJUSTABLE LEVERS
The second change you will see in this bike is you don’t get any adjustable hand levers like its big brother instead of you have regular levers and no bar end weights are features in this model. This is done maybe to keep costs low.
SWITCHGEAR CLUSTER
The third change you will notice on the left side switch gear cluster is you don’t get any navigation buttons to control the screen function its because an LCD display has a button over it to control features. on the other hand switch gear cluster of this bike looks the same as the Bajaj Pulsar 220F.
EXHAUST
Fourth change you will notice on the exhaust in the lower spec RC models you will get underbelly exhaust, not a side-mounted exhaust. an underbelly unit is much lighter than the side-mounted exhaust and it’s ideal for small-capacity bikes.
200CC POWER-HOUSE
This little beast comes with a 199.5 cc single cylinder liquid cooled engine which generates 25PS of power and 19.2 Nm of torque. this engine is also powering the Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 with different tuning.
This engine performs really well and this engine likes to rev harder this engine is ideal for Indian road conditions and traffic conditions because it is less powerful and produces less heat.
Ktm RS 200 BS6 Performance
Now you might be thinking that it’s a smaller 200 cc How it will perform then let me tell you don’t be a fool that it’s a small engine. believe me just like its elder siblings it accelerates like a missile and after 6000 RPM engine demands more throttle.
And this engine comes with a DOHC 4-valve liquid cooled fuel injected system and the air box is now 40% larger than the previous one so the torque and the throttle response are now more slick.
What about its handling?
Well, as this is a fully faired super sports bike it handles really well and it gives you precise control over the bike. and it comes with a Clip on the handlebar that can be adjusted according to your need. but if you are not habitual of this kind of bike that you may not feel comfortable on it due to its aggressive seating position.
what is the top speed of the ktm rc 200?
During the test we rode this bike on the highway and our RC 200 achieved 136 km/h top speed above this speed rev limiter comes in. and I must say that during a top speed test, this bike hits its top speed very easily. and this speed recorded by GPS.

0-100 km/h
8.9 sec.
0-120 km/h

what is the mileage of the ktm rc 200?
So I am sharing our experience related to its mileage. we took a brand new RC 200 and we filled the tank with half litres of petrol as you can see in the images. and we rode the bike till no fuel remain in the tank. and our trip meter was showing a 17.4 km distance covered.
so according to this, our bike delivered 34.8 km/l of mileage.
Mileage (Highway)
34.8 km/l
ktm RC 200 GP Edition
Ktm also launched the MotoGP edition of RC200 and this edition comes with the Orange and black colour combination. and when you look at it closer then you will find some glossy orange and matte orange finish all over the bike.
Besides this, you will get a smoked black front transparent windscreen that looks much better than the normal one. below you can see the images of the Motogp edition bike.

ktm rc 200 vs r15 v3 which is better?
Well, Yamaha R15 V4 has a less capacity engine which is 150 cc and Rc 200 comes with a 200 cc more powerful engine. whereas if you are a beginner Yamaha R15 V4 is better for you because it’s light in weight and delivers power in a good manner.
whereas RC 200 has a raw power delivery and its initial pickup is greater than the Yamaha R15. On the other hand, Ktm also misses the features like Quick Shifter and slipper clutch whereas Yamaha has all these features.
Both bikes get USD forks, Dual Channel ABS and aggressive riding position. but if you are looking for a sport bike that can give you good mileage as well as highway performance then you should go for the Yamaha R15.
and if you are looking for powerful performance then you should go for the RC 200. In my opinion, Yamaha R15 is a bit better than the RC 200.

My personal opinion
The new 2022 RC 390 is a really great bike in terms of design and features. this bike is competing with Ninja 300 & Apache RR310.
Like if you want a fully faired bike with killer looks that you should buy an Apache RR 310 because it less priced bike.
And I will not suggest you buy Ninja 300 because it still lacks new modern features like led lights and a TFT colour display.
So yes RC 390 is a costly bike but it offers you great value for money and you also have RC 200 & RC 125 that look exactly the same as the RC390.
I have tried to give a lot of information about this bike if you like it then don’t forget to share it with your friends.
